Each Spiritile is handcrafted in Houston Llew's Charleston studio. Glass is applied to metal using stencils and layered with hand sifters. Each Spiritile is fired only once. After firing, a pin is rolled over the enameled surface to create intentional crazing marks. While this technique defies traditional enamel practices, Houston believes it enhances the light refraction in the transparent sections of the glass.
Spiritiles can be hung on walls, displayed freestanding, and are durable in high humidity, direct sunlight, and covered outdoor spaces. It is recommended to bring them inside during cold winter weather.
